The House of Manatee: Manatees are gentle, calm and cuddly. Relaxed and unflashy they represent the comfort and soft side of knitting and crochet.
In the debate over which House I belong to, I really wanted to properly assess myself. Originally, I was torn between the Manatee and the Bee. I would fit as a bee because I am always starting something new. But I feel like a lot of people are like that. I decided on manatee, because I feel like when I knit and crochet, I'm making something that will last, but also something that will give the recipient a hug. Even when I knit or crochet on commission, it's a blanket or a warm scarf or cozy hat.
Sometimes I feel like flashy things are impractical. My wardrobe even reflects this, as it is full of staples- basic pants, tops, and shoes- though I do have some flashy pieces, they do not go with everything. And it's not even just my wardrobe. An ideal day to me includes several blankets, a cup of tea, and a cozy knit project.
While I might not always come across as the gentle, calm, cuddly person, I know that I wish I was that person more often. There are so many times in my classroom where I wish I was acting as the calm and gentle person.
We're supposed to be going for the best fit here, and my self-evaluation places me in the house of Manatee. Stop on by if you're looking for a cup of tea or for a hug in the form of a scarf.
Love your self-evaluation!
ReplyDeleteI'm a manatee as well.

I too love your analysis and the compassionate nature of this House is highly apparent in your approach. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you have worked out your house. You're the first Manatee I have found. Looking forward to more posts this week. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love your description of how you found your house. I love the idea of giving people a woolly hug
ReplyDeleteGreat post, it is one of the things I like best about gifting knitted items, anyone can buy something random as a gift, but making it is that giant hug
ReplyDeleteYou are the first manatee I have found as well! Love the self-evaluation ... can I pop back again for a woolly hug?

Nice! You're the first manatee I've come across. I like your self-evaluation. I'm a Monkey, but sometimes I go for something cuddly, too. I think I'll have to come back during the week and see the rest of your responses!
ReplyDeleteFinally, another manatee! All I've been seeing are Monkeys and Bees- I thought I was going to go extinct!
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteAlmost every blog I've read today....they're almost all bees. It's okay. There's nothing wrong with that :) I wish I could be more manatee-like but I'm just too much like a busy little bee....
ReplyDeleteWheeeee, you're my first Manatee! You get a prize! It's a high five: HIGH FIVE! I'll be back tomorrow! Exclamation points!!
ReplyDeleteYours is my first Manatee post also! Such warm and cozy words. I agree with you that at the heart of it, knitting is a source of comfort to both the knitter and recipient.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Manatee !
ReplyDeleteMe too... i'm a manatee : too gentle, too quiet :)
